Pala Casino Spa Golf Resort announced a 25th anniversary year, dating its opening to 2001 on the Pala Indian Reservation in northern San Diego County.
According to Pala Band of Mission Indians Chairman Robert Smith, the casino was built as part of tribal self-reliance after California gaming expanded, with revenue supporting tribal members and the surrounding community. The announcement said the Pala Band includes Cupeño and Luiseño people, with a 15,000-acre reservation along the Palomar Mountain range and more than 900 tribal members.
Cage cashier Gwendean Johnson and lead slot floor person Ibana Peña, both described as 25-year employees, said training began in March 2001 and opening day was April 3, 2001. CEO and CMO Fred Buro said upcoming work includes a casino refresh, new slot product, upgraded air filtration, and new dining concepts named Chi and Kunlun.
The resort said it has more than 2,000 slot and video machines, 78 table games, nine restaurants, a hotel, and entertainment in the Events Center and Starlight Theater, and that it has held AAA Four Diamond recognition for 15 consecutive years.
