Terra Biological LLC, a San Diego biotechnology firm, announced that four peer-reviewed papers now describe clinical research on its medical food Oxaloacetate CFS for myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome and Long COVID.
According to the company, the papers appear in the Journal of Translational Medicine, Frontiers in Neurology, and Frontiers in Neuroscience and cover about 270 participants. Terra Biological summarized a six-week dose-ranging study, the 82-person RESTORE ME randomized trial at the Bateman Horne Center in Salt Lake City, the 69-person REGAIN Long COVID trial, and a follow-up analysis of cognition and upright activity. The company reported fatigue reductions in those studies, including a more than 25% drop from baseline in RESTORE ME versus a smaller, non-significant change in the control group, and said the product was well tolerated at tested doses.
Founder and chief science officer Alan Cash said fatigue reduction of that size can be life changing for ME/CFS patients. Terra Biological said it was established in San Diego in 2006 and that Oxaloacetate CFS is a medical food meant to be used under a qualified clinician’s supervision. The announcement said the material is educational and is not individual medical advice.
